In 1848, the mayor of a small German town wanted to alleviate the distress of farmers suffering from the famine that had struck his district.  Based on the theory that they could get better financial services by pooling their money and resources and working together, they formed the first credit union. 

In 1951 these principles were brought to Gadsden, AL through the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company when they chartered Family Savings Federal Credit Union.  Since that time, Family Savings has grown to over 50,000 members and is located in Alabama and Georgia.  We still serve the employees of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, but also serve anyone that lives, works, or worships in Etowah County, AL or the northwest ten counties of Georgia including the counties of Polk, Paulding, Gordon, Bartow, Chattooga, Haralson, Walker, Floyd, Catoosa and Dade.

Today, Family Savings Federal Credit Union is still driven by these simple principals:
